In what I feel is an important further step toward the full “Swissification” of the Fantasia family, we have to request a “Swiss family booklet” (“Familienausweis”, formerly known as “Familienbuch”) from the City of Zerneve. This is an official document which attests the status/composition of your family, including partner, children etc. This has been requested by my current employer, in order to fulfill requirements for tax deductions, child allowances, etc. I call it “an important step” because it’s not a document reserved to any mere mortal. In order to be eligible for it, at least one of these conditions must apply:
- One or both partners are of Swiss nationality
- Marriage happened in Switzerland
- At least one child born in Switzerland
And you can see why, until now, we were never asked to apply for this document: both Mei-Lin and I are non-Swiss, we got married in Taiwan, and our firstborn Penelope was born in Taiwan. But, after Serse was born in Switzerland, the situation has changed. You can order this online, for 40 CHF plus 1.10 CHF shipping.
