Penelope’s Quest For The Family Book: Phail #3 And Mei-Lin’s Italian Citizenship Application

A couple of quick updates.

First, Satan has replied. More or less like this:

Most delightfully amusing peasant,

That’s so cute of you to think that the same original document could be reused for different applications.

Oh, and we’re SO sorry to request both Chinese and English versions, but you know, new rules

Wishing you all best of luck from the abyssal depths of my heart,

Satan

Mei-Lin’s relatives exhausted their spells to help us with this. So, in October, we’re flying to Taiwan. All of us. With absolutely non-hostile intentions.

Then, we got the results of Mei-Lin’s language test for Italian citizenship. It’s a pass with a great score, yay! Mei-Lin is very relieved, she thinks the most difficult part is now over. Lol.

Which opens up a new exciting questline for us! Because getting Italian citizenship is, well, not super easy. First step is the Italian language certificate: check. But then we need to do the application proper, which involves a registration on some arcane, obscure webform, probably from a website hosted in the same datacenter in Molise where the Asylum‘s website is hosted, and then… collecting other documents. These documents are: Mei-Lin’s birth certificate (again, yes, another one) and a police record certificate from all the countries where Mei-Lin ever acquired residence.

Which includes… Japan!

So yes, we need to figure out how to obtain, legalize, double-legalize, bless etc a police record certificate from a country notorious for still relying heavily on fax machines in 2023. Stay tuned!
